PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Davis hired as new coach at Columbia

A familiar face is taking over Columbia’s cross country teams. Lawrence Davis has been hired as the new head coach at CHS, a move that was approved by the school board Tuesday night. He replaces Shelli Shoup, who stepped down after last season following bullying accusations.

UF coach Dan Mullen said the Gators expect to open training camp Aug. 7 and kick off the 2020 season on Sept. 5 at home against Eastern Washington. Things certainly could change at a time when nothing is predictable due to the coronavirus pandemic.

COLLEGE SPORTS: DeSantis signs bill to allow college athletes to profit off name, image and likeness

Florida has cleared the way for college athletes in the state to earn money from endorsement deals as soon as next summer. That comes even as some in college sports want to slow things down due to concerns about how athlete compensation will actually work.
