CORONAVIRUS: SEC pushes back start of fall except for football

GAINESVILLE — Southeastern Conference Commissioner Greg Sankey announced Tuesday that the start of the fall seasons for cross country, soccer and volleyball will be delayed through August 31 due to the covid-19 pandemic.

WRESTLER OF THE DECADE Chace Curtis, Columbia, 2018 class Forty-one years went by without a state champion in wrestling at Columbia. In fact, Amos Smith was the only wrestler to ever win the title for the Tigers. But that all changed in 2016.
Laremy Tunsil was the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 6A Player of the Year in his senior season after helping the Tigers post an 11-2 record on their way to the regional finals. He was also a USA Today All-American as well as a U.S. Army All-American Bowl selection that year after posting 90 pancake clocks and grading out at 93 percent as a blocker, one year having 100 pancake blocks with a 90-percent grad as a junior. OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE DECADE OL: Laremy Tunsil, Columbia, 2013 class Maybe the best football player to ever come out of Columbia County. Certainly the best in the past decade.
Timmy Jernigan was a high school All-American as a senior at Columbia before signing with Florida State. Jernigan was taken in the second round of the NFL draft in 2014 by the Baltimore Ravens and later traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he won a Super Bowl in 2018. (FILE)
