NFL: Jags' Minshew, 4 teammates on covid-19 list

The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed starting quarterback Gardner Minshew and four teammates, including two of his roommates, on the covid-19 list. Running back Ryquell Armstead, tight end Charles Jones, receiver Michael Walker and safety Andrew Wingard also were placed on the list Sunday.

NFL: Lerentee McCray becomes second Jaguars player to opt out of 2020 season

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end/special teams standout Lerentee McCray has opted out of the 2020 season because of the coronavirus pandemic. McCray is entering his seventh NFL season, the last three with Jacksonville. He also played with Denver and Buffalo.

A long career in travel soccer and a stellar career at Columbia has prepared Ember Russell-Martinez for the next level. Russell-Martinez recently signed her letter of intent to play at Bethel University in McKenzie, Tenn.

NFL: Jaguars DT Al Woods opts out of season

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Al Woods, who has played for five teams during his 10-year NFL career, is opting out of the 2020 season. The 33-year-old Woods signed a one-year, $2.75 million deal with Jacksonville in free agency. He played for Seattle in 2019.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: FGC guard Diamond Smith commits to Miles College

Florida Gateway College’s basketball program has only been back for two seasons but its already sent two guards off to continue their careers. Diamond Smith became the third on Thursday. Smith verbally committed to Miles College, a Division II school and HBCU in Fairfield, Ala.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: No UF-FSU game in 2020 as SEC goes to conference-only schedule

The powerhouse Southeastern Conference reconfigured its schedule Thursday to include only league games in 2020, a pandemic-forced decision that pushes major college football closer to a siloed regular season in which none of the power conferences cross paths.

CORONAVIRUS: Three plans on the table to start fall sports

Three plans are on the table from the Florida High School Athletic Association to start fall sports, which is currently postponed until at least Aug. 24 due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to an FHSAA document, the first option has the season set to begin Aug. 24.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: ACC schedule includes Notre Dame, 10 conference games

The Atlantic Coast Conference reworked its football schedule Wednesday to allow each team to play 11 games and to incorporate Notre Dame, which is giving up its cherished independence in a year turned upside down by the coronavirus pandemic.
