CORONAVIRUS: NCAA cancels fall championships as major football marches on

The NCAA called off fall championship events — a move Thursday that does not affect major college football — because not enough schools will be competing in sports such as men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball during the first semester.

COMMENTARY: FHSAA needs to follow SMAC's recommendation and delay the start of fall sports

It came as no surprise Wednesday when the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee recommended delaying the start of fall sports further ahead of the Florida High School Athletic Association’s board of directors’ meeting on Friday.

TALLAHASSEE — As the Big Ten and Pac-12 conferences both postponed their football seasons on Tuesday because of the coronavirus pandemic, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was pushing for college football to be played as scheduled. High school football, too.

CORONAVIRUS: Trump, coaches push for college football as cracks emerge

President Donald Trump on Monday joined a U.S. senator and a number of coaches calling to save the college football season from a pandemic-forced shutdown as supporters pushed the premise that the players are safer because of their sport.
