PREP SPORTS: FHSAA votes for 1-year reclassification plan for 2021-2022

The Florida High School Athletic Association’s board of directors voted unanimously Monday to reclassify all sports for one year only due to complications from the covid-19 pandemic. It’s a change from the typical two-year cycle, which the FHSAA will likely to go back to after next school year.

PREP TRACK & FIELD: Suwannee, Branford win several events at Santa Fe Invitational

Suwannee’s track and field teams shined at the Santa Fe Invitational on Saturday, with several athletes taking home gold medals. For the girls, V’Kaylynn Ward won 100 hurdles (16.11), Mon’tayasia Jones won the high jump (5-03.75), Hiliyah Walker won the long jump (16-02.

Timothy Jolicoeur led all area wrestlers at state with a fifth-place finish in the 126 class at the Class 1A state meet on Saturday. Jolicoeur pinned Wakulla Isaiah Wilson at the 2:41 mark in the fifth-place match.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — This time, Notre Dame made enough plays to knock off a ranked team. It had been a while. Prentiss Hubb scored 22 points, Dane Goodwin had 15 and Notre Dame beat No. 11 Florida State 83-73 on Saturday.

Lawrence Davis is in the second season of his second stint as Columbia’s track & field coach. The first was from 1991-1993. Back then, the school had an asphalt track. Today? It’s the exact same and it’s condition has degraded.

PREP BASEBALL: Santa Fe mercy-rules Columbia in five innings

ALACHUA — Sometimes the wheels just fall off. Such is baseball.  For Columbia on Friday night, the wheels just all happened to fall off at the same time.  The Tigers fell to Santa Fe in the two rivals’ second and final regular season meeting in a 10-0 run-rule loss on the Raiders’ senior night.
