COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Howard Schnellenberger, 87, Miami, Louisville coach, dies

MIAMI — Howard Schnellenberger was a pipe smoker with a push-broom mustache and gruff baritone, and he paired his grandiloquent manner with grandiose visions for football at Miami, Louisville and Florida Atlantic that caused snickers. At all three schools, Schnellenberger disproved doubters.

PREP BASEBALL: Sloppy play costs Columbia against Palatka

PALATKA — Columbia fell to Palatka 5-2 on the road Friday night. The game was close throughout with the Tigers (7-7) knotting up the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning after Matthew Dumas hit an RBI double that just glanced off the glove of diving Panther centerfielder Dominic Huerta.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Florida loses 4th player in 3 days as Osifo enters portal

GAINESVILLE — It appears Florida coach Mike White will be an active shopper in the burgeoning transfer portal. Forward Osayi Osifo announced plans to play elsewhere Friday, becoming the fourth player in three days to leave White's program.
