GAINESVILLE — Three weeks ago, Columbia took a shot at the top team in District 3-5A, Gainesville. The Tigers took the Class 5A No. 5 Hurricanes to the brink and back, ultimately falling 4-3 in 10 innings, but proving they belong in the conversation.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Florida loses another as Scottie Lewis opts for NBA draft

GAINESVILLE — Guard Scottie Lewis became the sixth player to leave Florida's basketball program in a little more than a week when he declared for the NBA draft Thursday night. Lewis announced on Instagram that he will hire an agent and made it clear he has no plans on returning to school.

COLLEGE SPORTS: High court sympathetic to athletes in NCAA dispute

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Wednesday seemed sympathetic to college athletes in a dispute with the NCAA over rules limiting their education-related compensation.

PREP SOFTBALL: Columbia holds on to top Bell, snaps 8-game skid

A sign hung in the dugout as a reminder — and for motivation. It read “payback” after Bell beat Columbia 12-7 back on March 6. The Tigers dished it on Tuesday night, then held on for revenge in a 9-8 victory over the Bulldogs to snap an eight-game losing streak.
