PREP SPORTS: Columbia, Suwannee sit atop regions in first FHSAA baseball rankings

Two of the best baseball teams in the area reside in Columbia and Suwannee counties. The FHSAA released their first set of power rankings on Tuesday and Columbia was rated first in Region 1-5A while Suwannee came in first in Region 1-4A.

LIVE OAK — A year after carrying a 47-7 mark with a district title and regional runner-up finish into the state meet, Suwannee’s Tyson Musgrove returned to Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimee’s Osceola Heritage Park in a similar position.

Hayden Gustavson gave up the lead in the seventh inning, then redeemed himself in the eighth. The Florida State commit hit a one-out single and then scored on a walk-off double by Truitt Todd to lift Columbia to an 8-7 win over North Florida Christian at home Friday night in extra innings.
