MLB: Players reach deal to end lockout, salvage 162-game season

NEW YORK — Major League Baseball’s players and owners ended their most bitter money fight in a quarter-century Thursday when the players’ association accepted management’s offer to salvage a 162-game season that will start April 7. The work stoppage ended at 7 p.m.

PREP FOOTBALL: Columbia, Suwannee get new districts as FHSAA unveils new suburban/metro classifications

The wait is over. The Florida High School Athletic Association released the brand new districts for the 2022-23 seasons on Wednesday, giving coaches, players and fans a look at how the metro-suburban split will look.

MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Syracuse routs Florida State by 39 points in ACC tourney

NEW YORK — Cole Swider had 28 points and 13 rebounds in 28 minutes, Joe Girard added 16 points and No. 9 seed Syracuse beat eighth-seeded Florida State 96-57 on Wednesday in the second round of the ACC tournament. Syracuse advances to play top-seeded Duke in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

GAINESVILLE — Florida women’s basketball coach Kelly Rae Finley’s recently signed five-year contract is worth $740,000 annually. The University Athletic Association released her contract Wednesday in response to a public records request.

PREP SOFTBALL: Arnold strikes out 10, Pitts homers in another Branford win over Columbia

The Tigers were rolling through the early portion of Monday’s game against Branford. The Buccaneers managed just two baserunners through the first three innings at Columbia while the home team pushed across an early run. Fifteen runs later, Branford seemed more at ease with itself.
