GIRLS SOCCER: Columbia keeps season alive, downs Middleburg in district quarterfinals

Skyler Ziegaus really tried. Even with the game well in-hand, Columbia’s junior forward still attacked the ball with all she had at the edge of the 18-yard box, stumbling to the Tiger Stadium grass as she hit a shot wide of the goal.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: McKnight, Madison County sink Columbia at buzzer

Jolena Gardner drove baseline and banked in a floater that sent Columbia’s bench into celebration with 7.1 seconds left. But the celebration was short-lived.  Madison County inbounded the ball out of a timeout and went the length of the court, finding go-to scorer Janiyah McKnight.

MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Pack, Wong lead No. 20 Miami's rout of Florida St.

TALLAHASSEE — Miami’s nine-game losing streak to Florida State was a major source of frustration for coach Jim Larranaga. The Hurricanes made sure it is now history. Nijel Pack and Isaiah Wong scored 18 points apiece as No. 20 Miami cruised to an 86-63 win over Florida State on Tuesday night.

MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: FGC falls to Trinity Baptist in 4 overtimes

Florida Gateway College dropped a wild contest to Trinity Baptist on Monday, losing 119-115 in four overtimes at the Howard Center. All five starters scored in double figures for Eagles (10-5), led by Xavier Rose’s 27 to go with seven rebounds and seven assists.

BOYS & GIRLS BASKETBALL: Where teams stand in playoff races in latest FHSAA rankings

Columbia’s boys basketball team rose back up to third in Region 1-5A in the latest FHSAA rankings released on Tuesday. The Tigers’ rating rose to 11.873 after a 2-1 week to jump them over Riverside, which sits at 11.129 after going 1-2 last week. Columbia (13-8) has road games at Class 1A No.
