PREP TRACK & FIELD: Columbia takes home four wins at Santa Fe mini meet

Columbia traveled to Alachua to compete in the Santa Fe mini meet on Thursday and took home four victories. For the boys, Jose Rodriguez ran 1:58.74 to win the 800m run, while Seth Stockton won another triple jump by breaking his own school record with a leap of 14.99m.

BASEBALL — South Lake 8, Suwannee 2: Connor Thompson had an RBI but the Bulldogs (4-6) lost to the Eagles (6-7) on the road Friday night. Logan Brooks pitched four innings in the loss, allowing five runs — three earned — on six hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts.

PREP BASEBALL: Frier hits grand slam, Columbia beats Santa Fe for fifth straight win

In a period from one half-inning to another, Columbia outfielder Camdon Frier went from goat to hero. He dropped the ball off a drive in the fourth, which came right at him in right field — the first of three errors that put CHS in a bases-loaded, no-out jam.

COMMENTARY: Fans should be thankful Allen, Jackson have returned home

What a crazy couple of months huh?  I’m not even sure what year it is. Is it 2023 or 2015? The coaching carousel has gone back in time in Columbia County, yet it feels just how everything should be. Brian Allen is back as Columbia’s head coach. Demetric Jackson is back at Fort White.

BASEBALL — Columbia 12, Forest 6: Carston Palmer went 3 for 3 with a double and four RBIs, Camdon Frier had three RBIs on a 3-for-4 night, and Brayden Thomas drove in three more runs to lead the Tigers (11-2) past the Wildcats (6-5) at home Thursday night for their fourth straight win.

MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: FGC eliminated by Chesapeake in NJCAA tournament

DANVILLE , Ill. — Florida Gateway College shot the ball better from inside arc, beyond the arc and also at the free throw line. The rebound margin was in its favor too. Yet, the Timberwolves are still heading home without a victory at the NJCAA tournament for the second straight season.

Columbia and Suwannee endured the rain and windy conditions to compete at the Bob Hayes Invitational on Saturday at North Florida’s Hodges Stadium. The highlight of the day for Columbia was the performance of Seth Stockton who won the triple jump with a leap of 14.11m.
