GAINESVILLE — Three months after losing blue-chip quarterback Jaden Rashada over a failed name, image and likeness deal worth nearly $14 million, the University of Florida is revamping and streamlining its fundraising collective.

Steve Faulkner’s phone was routinely buzzing this offseason. After missing the playoffs last season for the first time since 2017, Columbia guard Isaac Broxey wanted to get in the gym every chance he could get. So much so, he couldn’t stop bugging his coach, who lives near the school.

BOYS WEIGHTLIFTING: Suwannee splits regional titles ahead of state meet

LIVE OAK — Heading into Friday’s Region 2-1A meet, Suwannee boys weightlifting coach Dan Marsee figured the Bulldogs would split the region titles with Keystone Heights. Marsee was right, but it didn’t turn out exactly like he figured.

Eriel Baker had big shoes to fill this season. Columbia’s sophomore point guard was tasked with replacing Na’Haviya Paxton, who was a 3-time LCR Player of the Year and one of the best to suit up in program history. But Baker never tried to be like Paxton.

GIRLS WEIGHTLIFTING: Suwannee's Shearer named Dairy Farmer’s 1A Coach of the year

LIVE OAK — A third straight state championship season led to a third straight state honor for Brittney Shearer. Suwannee’s girls weightlifting coach was named the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 1A Coach of the Year on Thursday, the third straight year Shearer hoisted the honor.

AUTO RACING: Several top drivers to race at Hunt the Front Throwdown

All-Tech Raceway is hosting an inaugural race for a new late model dirt track series, which looks to kick up dust and racing interest all over the Southeastern region of the county.
