COMMENTARY: Allen, staff have a lot of work to do, but there’s optimism at Columbia

Back-to-back losses to end the season, including Friday’s 37-14 loss to Choctawhatchee in the Region 1-3S quarterfinals, showed just how much work Columbia head coach Brian Allen and the rest of his staff have to do this offseason.

BOYS BASKETBALL: 28 turnovers by Columbia lead to preseason loss to Raines

Columbia addressed one of coach Steve Faulkner’s concerns in its preseason opener Tuesday night, outrebounding Raines by 21. But the Tigers left him with a bigger one when 28 turnovers cost them in a 58-52 loss at home.

COLLEGE CROSS COUNTRY: FGC women place 10th at NJCAA National Championships

HUNTSVILLE, ALA.—The Florida Gateway College women secured their highest-ever finish at the NJCAA National Championships on Saturday, placing 10th with a collective score of 292 at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Alabama.

PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Season ends for Columbia boys with 13th-place finish in Region 1-3A

Columbia’s cross country season ended on Saturday as the boys finished 13th at the Region 1-3A meet at Matanzas High School. The Tigers were hurt in the standings by only having six runners and tallied 353 points, quite far behind to St. Augustine’s 198 for eighth place and the final state berth.

PREP FOOTBALL: Tabb, Choctaw knock Columbia out of Region 1-3S playoffs

FORT WALTON BEACH — Columbia rode over to Choctawhatchee on a bus with no air conditioning after the unit broke early in the 4-hour drive. Call it a premonition of what was to come. A few hours later, the Indians knocked the air out of the rest of the Tigers’ season.
