GIRLS WEIGHTLIFTING: 25 teams to compete at Suwannee High’s Power of Christmas

LIVE OAK — The Suwannee girls weightlifting program is in the giving mood once again this holiday season. The Bulldogs will be giving local fans the opportunity to see the best teams in the state Saturday when they host their annual Power of Christmas invitational.

BOYS SOCCER — Suwannee 2, Hamilton County 0: Axel Johansson and Rember Alonso both scored a goal while William Slaughter had an assist to lead the Bulldogs (6-7) to a shutout win over the Trojans (1-7) at home Tuesday night. Goalkeeper AJ Hitt made 11 saves in the shutout.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Columbia gets outmuscled by Buchholz in third straight loss

GAINESVILLE — Early momentum pointed toward the Tigers pulling away from their counterparts Tuesday night. But Buchholz kept rebounding. And rebounding. And when that was done on either side of the court, Columbia didn’t have the right response.

PREP FOOTBALL: FHSAA votes to scrap metro/suburban classifications

The metro/suburban classifications are dead after two years. The Florida High School Athletic Association’s Board of Directors voted 9-4 on Tuesday to scrap the two-year experiment in favor of returning to seven classifications based solely on school enrollment, in addition to one rural class.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Columbia drops district test to Rickards

In a potential District 2-5A tournament preview, Columbia came up short in its first test against Rickards with a 55-47 loss at home Saturday afternoon. The Tigers led 25-24 at halftime but were outscored by 11 in the second half in a physical contest.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Columbia drops low-scoring affair to Lowndes

VALDOSTA — In a back and forth battle in Georgia, Lowndes found a way to hand Columbia a 47-43 loss Friday night. The Vikings’ zone defense caused the Tigers problems offensively as they were held under 50 points for the second straight game.
