Owens elected to Live Oak council

LIVE OAK — Live Oak’s District 5 will have new representation. In the city’s runoff election Tuesday, Gladys Owens received 74 votes to defeat incumbent Tesie Allen, who received 34 votes.

As he makes final decisions about the state budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year, Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday touted a $200 million increase to help raise teacher salaries. Lawmakers included the teacher-pay money in a $117.46 billion budget they passed in March.
