Justices turn down sports betting challenge

TALLAHASSEE — In a major win for the Seminole Tribe, the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday refused to upend a 30-year, multibillion-dollar deal giving the tribe control of sports betting throughout Florida. The Supreme Court declined to take up a challenge filed by two pari-mutuel companies.

Mayo teen ejected from truck, killed

MAYO — A 19-year-old Mayo man was killed Sunday morning when he was thrown from a pickup truck. A Florida Highway Patrol release states a pickup was headed east on SW LC Folsom Road around 3:15 a.m. when it hit a tree on southern edge of the roadway.

LIVE OAK — North Florida received more rain than normal in May, including some areas that were inundated with more than 7 inches during the month.

Turner receives life for Mayo murder

MAYO — A Mayo man faces life in prison for an August 2022 murder. Earnest Turner, 53, was sentenced to life in prison last week by Judge David Fina for both the second degree murder charge and attempted first degree murder charge.
