More Debby recovery centers open around area

Disaster Recovery Centers have now opened in all four area counties. After the Federal Emergency Management Agency opened a site in Columbia County early last week, locations opened in Suwannee and Lafayette counties later in the week.

FHP searching for fleeing driver from fatal accident

Health clinic eyes vacant soccer site

LIVE OAK — A women’s health care center is the goal for a vacant soccer complex in Suwannee County.

Suwannee supports St. John

LIVE OAK — Two Suwannee County incumbents will remain in office for another four years. Another, Sheriff Sam St. John, advanced to the November general election after a primary win Tuesday, while two newcomers move on to a runoff to decide a seat on the Suwannee County School Board.

Lamb remains Lafayette sheriff

MAYO — Sheriff Brian Lamb and two other incumbents will remain in office following the Lafayette County primary election Tuesday. The Lafayette County School Board, though, will get one new member after Kimberly Adams unseated Amanda Hickman in District 4.

Mayo’s Middleton wins photo contest

A Mayo man’s shot of a preening bird won a local photography competition. John Middleton’s shot of a young Reddish Heron at sunrise took top honors in the Branford Camera Club’s photo contest being held in conjunction with the Gateway Art Gallery.

Hamilton County bus rear-ended

JENNINGS — A stationary Hamilton County school bus was rear-ended while running its route Wednesday morning. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the bus was stopped at the intersection of County Road 141 and County Road 152 at 7:22 a.m.

State parks plan includes golf, pickleball

TALLAHASSEE --- Future visits to some of Florida’s state parks could include getting in 18 holes of golf or playing pickleball. The state Department of Environmental Protection this week announced what it has dubbed a “Great Outdoors Initiative” aimed at expanding public access to state parks.
