South Canal Fire near fully contained

MAYO — The wildfire in southern Lafayette County is almost completely contained.The Florida Forest Service said Wednesday in a release that the South Canal Fire, which began May 4, was now 93% contained. The fire covered 2,200 acres.

Live Oak’s city manager has a renewed contract with a raise.The Live Oak City Council approved by a 4-1 vote to renew its contract with City Manager Larry Sessions through January during its meeting Tuesday. Councilwoman Vanessa Brown Robinson cast the dissenting vote.

Live Oak man pleads guilty to postal crimes

A Live Oak man has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal postal keys, theft of postal keys and postal robbery and assault.John Heekin, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, announced the guilty plea from 33-year-old Antrell Hillard on Monday.
