Senate head defends toll roads

TALLAHASSEE — Senate President Bill Galvano defended controversial toll-road plans he’s pushed for nearly two years, after task forces released draft reports Tuesday indicating they were unable to determine if there is a need for the projects.

Two new covid deaths reported in Columbia

Two additional Columbia County deaths linked to covid-19 were announced Wednesday by the Florida Department of Health. The new deaths, which involve a 58-year-old man and a 79-year-old man, bring the county’s total to 58 deaths in residents that have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Christ Central to host Trunk or Treat event

Christ Central Ministries will host Lake City’s Trunk or Treat event for children on Friday, October 23, at its church grounds, 217 SW Dyal Ave. The free event runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Florida moves to Phase 3 of reopening

TALLAHASSEE — Gov.Ron DeSantis lifted state covid-19 business restrictions Friday, including limits on the numbers of people who can dine in restaurants, while also prohibiting local governments from closing restaurants and collecting fines from people who don’t wear face masks in public.
