Jail upgrades to begin this year

County officials are looking to start the expansion work at the Columbia County Detention Facility before the end of the year after more than $7 million was shifted from reserve funds last week for the new construction.

Deadline spurs rush of voter registrations

Monday’s voter registration deadline brought a rush of voters to local supervisor of elections offices. Although the Columbia County elections office closed at 5 p.m. Monday, people were still driving up as the doors to the office were being locked.

‘Fatigued’ Trump positive for covid

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump will spend a “few days” at a military hospital after contracting covid-19, the White House said Friday, as the virus that has killed more than 205,000 Americans spread to the highest reaches of the U.S. government. Trump “remains fatigued,” his doctor said.

Suwannee announces new mobile testing sites

The Suwannee County Health Department is taking a mobile testing lab bus to two sites next week. On Wednesday, the mobile testing site will be at Branford Town Hall, 502 SW Suwannee Ave., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or until a capacity of 200 tests have been conducted.
