Destruction at 100 mph: Driver, passenger hospitalized after high-speed crash

When a high-speed chase passed her Tuesday morning, Barbara Meeks didn’t have a good feeling. “I thought he was going to kill somebody,” Meeks said moments later while watching first responders tend to the aftermath of the wreck in downtown Lake City.

Wave of positivity: Friendly wave leads to fun interaction with LCPD officer

Sometimes making a new friend is as simple as responding to a wave. Lake City police officer Michael Craig’s response to a wave from a local youngster not only made the child’s day, but highlighted the LCPD’s efforts to improve its relationship with residents in the community — young and old.

Johnson awarded state scholarship to FAMU

The adage “It takes a village to raise a child” was evident at the Richardson Community Center Wednesday afternoon.  That’s where 2021 Columbia High School graduate Jordyn Johnson celebrated getting a scholarship award to Florida A&M University.

Power play: Florida Power & Light busy with 176-mile ‘Resiliency Connection'

If there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, it may be because the Florida Power and Light Company is building the infrastructure to get it there. Electrical crews are installing the foundations and erecting new electrical service fixtures in several areas of Columbia County for an FPL project.
