High-speed chase ends with wreck

A high-speed chase Saturday morning came to a sudden stop when the suspect crashed into a fence and a tree. According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, 31-year-old Tyrone Vaughn, of Lake City, led deputies on a pursuit through northeast Lake City for about an hour, starting around 9:45 a.m.

Hundreds flock to Parade of Homes

Hundreds of people looking for a new home and checking out the newest construction ideas flocked to the annual Parade of Homes event during the weekend. Trends and amenities were on display in seven homes of varying sizes all built by local builders from Columbia County.

Kids Day draws crowd, funds

Youngsters played in a pile of sand, sat in fire trucks, bulldozers and other heavy machinery, and had their faces painted or touched animals in a small petting zoo.

Runover attempt ends in jail time

A Lake City woman is in custody after trying to run down a man at a gas station Sunday afternoon. According to the Lake City Police Department, a man was at Bob’s Chevron on W. Duval Street around 1:30 p.m. Sunday when Shelly Seymour, 33, circled the pumps attempting to hit him.

Wellborn man charged with punching toddler

A Wellborn man faces felony charges following allegations of punching a toddler in the face Sunday. According to a Lake City Police Department report, witnesses saw Brandon Hampson, 27, punching a child in the parking lot of the Cracker Barrel off SW Commerce Drive around 3:15 p.m. Sunday.

A War on Terror monument will be added to the war memorial monuments in downtown Olustee Park in the near future.

Belmont graduates largest class in school history

A group of 33 Belmont Academy High School students capped their high school careers Friday evening when they graduated as the school’s largest graduation class to date.
