Saluting America’s heroes: Crosses, flags line State Road 47 for Memorial Day

A salute to veterans is waving to passers by on the south end of Lake City. More than a dozen volunteers braved 90-degree temperatures for several hours Sunday to erect flags and crosses in honor of veterans.

Sundial 'king' arrested for causing disturbance

Sometimes, it’s not good to be king. Rosecli Salgado Durta, 68, found that out the hard way after he was arrested after causing a disturbance at the Sundial apartments. According to a Columbia County Sherif f ’s Office report, officers responded to a call around 7 p.m.

Armed teen nabbed behind apartments

A Lake City teenager is behind bars after allegedly loitering with a weapon behind an apartment building. Trevoreon Alphonso Mitchell, 19, was arrested early Sunday morning after an anonymous tip was called into the Lake City Police Department, according to an LCPD release.

A Lake City police officer suffered minor injures when his patrol vehicle was hit Monday afternoon. A Lake City Police Department SUV was parked at the red light on SE Baya Drive with State Road 100 around 1 p.m.

DUI checkpoints set up for holiday

Fort White Class of '22 'rises up,' graduates

FORT WHITE — With the homestands filled to capacity and spectators even sitting on the school’s athletic track, Fort White High School graduated 112 students in its commencement exercises Friday evening.

City shows it’s ‘Byrd Strong’

A convoy of City of Lake City vehicles, led by Lake City Fire Department vehicles, made a mad dash to the new city hall’s drive-through Friday morning.

CHS Class of 22 nets $1.5M in scholarships

As the Columbia High Class of 2022 prepares to take its next step, it won’t go empty-handed. During senior awards festivities this week, nearly 70 Columbia seniors racked up more than $1.5 million in scholarship funding to benefit them along the way. Graduation is set for Friday at CHS.
