And then there were three. The Lake City Council decided on three finalists for its city manager seat during its Monday meeting. Topping the list of 22 applicants were Gerald Butler, Juan Guerra and Don Rosenthal.

Warren files for mayoral position

The Lake City mayoral race now has two candidates. During Monday’s Lake City Council meeting, Sylvester Warren filed his paperwork to run for the seat at the head of the council during the public comment portion. Warren declined Tuesday to say why he decided to run for city office.

County discussing affordable housing projects in workshop

The Columbia County Commission plan to look further into affordable housing plans from a pair of developers this week. The commission is holding a workshop Thursday morning following its regular meeting, which begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Columbia County School Board auditorium, 372 W. Duval Street.

Lake City man killed in crash with tree

A Lake City man was killed Saturday afternoon when his truck ran into a tree. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 25-year-old from Lake City was driving south on County Road 245 (SE Price Creek Drive) around 1:50 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.

Beatles tribute show returns to FGC

All you need is love. That and the return of a beloved tribute show. Florida Gateway College is set to bring back ‘Let It Be: The Beatles Tribute’ to the Levy Performing Arts Center on Friday. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 7.

Miss CHS set to be crowned

The Miss Columbia High School Pageant will take place 6 p.m. Saturday at Columbia High School in the Norman R. Choice performing Arts Center. Doors will open at 5:15 p.m. and tickets are $5. Tickets can be purchased at the door at the auditorium.

Kimble honored as excellent educator

For the past two weeks, Keisha Kimble has been caught up in a whirlwind of excitement and emotion. Last week she learned she’d won an Excellence in Education Award and on Tuesday she was at the Governor’s mansion for an award reception.

Boozer recalled for dedication to service

Serving as a Lake City firefighter was more than a job for Dwight Boozer, it was his life. Lake City’s assistant fire chief for nearly the past two years, Boozer had a life-long dedication to the department and to the community he loved, according to a pair of city fire chiefs.
