Handgun found in car at FWHS

FORT WHITE — A Fort White High School student is in custody after a firearm was found in his car at the school Thursday. Hunter Creamer, 18, was charged Thursday morning with possession of a weapon at school and possession of CBD/THC oil.

Dwight Boozer, a longtime Lake City firefighter and the department’s current assistant chief, passed away Wednesday night following a battle with cancer. “Chief Boozer’s impact on this department and Lake City as a community is immeasurable,” Chief Josh Wehinger said in a press release Thursday.

FWHS students organizing color fun run for hospice programs

FORT WHITE — A group of Fort White High School students in the National Honor Society have come up with a fun concept to raise funds for local hospice programs — a  color fun run.

The Lake City Council is finally back to full strength. James Carter, who was serving as a member on the city’s Planning and Zoning Board, was officially sworn into service as the District 13 representative in a special called meeting Monday. The motion to install Carter passed unanimously.

A city workshop based on decorum instead drew ire Monday night. The Lake City Council reviewed issues of meeting room decorum at Monday’s workshop, with conversation sometimes veering off into unrelated topics.

Man shot, killed in his driveway

A Lake City man was shot and killed in his driveway Monday night in the northwest part of Lake City. According to the Lake City Police Department, 23-year-old Christopher Alid Cruz Aleman, was shot around 9:50 p.m. Monday.

Teen charged with molesting minor

A Lake City teen is in custody after allegedly molesting a child Saturday. According to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office report, a father returned to a residence on NE Colvin Avenue to a witness telling him that he saw 19-year-old Collin Russell touch his penis to a girl’s private parts.
