Columbia’s baseball team dropped its season opener on the road Tuesday night, losing to West Nassau 4-3 on a walk-off passed ball in the seventh inning. The Warriors (1-0) pulled out the victory after Logan Brooks’ pickoff throw to first base allowed the runner to advance to third.

Columbia gathered in the gym after practice Saturday afternoon anxiously awaiting the release of the state’s playoff bracket. There was one team the Tigers specifically wanted to face in the Region 1-5A quarterfinals, and they got their wish.

TRENTON — Zuri Hollie and Israel Hart combined for over 40 points for the second consecutive postseason game for Fort White. This time, with the district title on the line, defeating host Trenton for the third straight time this season didn’t prove to be the cakewalk it started out to be.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Columbia awaits playoff fate following loss to Leon in district semis

Will Columbia still make the playoffs? The odds still look good for the Tigers, who will find out for sure today. A 61-48 loss to Leon in the District 2-5A semifinals on Wednesday has Columbia waiting anxiously for the Region 1-5A playoff bracket, which will be unveiled at 2 p.m. today.
