NFL: Meyer turned to Carroll, Seahawks to help rebuild Jaguars

JACKSONVILLE — Urban Meyer first started studying Pete Carroll nearly two decades ago.  Meyer was taking over at Utah in 2003 and Carroll was about to lead USC to one of college football’s most dominant stretches, a 34-game winning streak that was later partially vacated because of NCAA violations.

PREP FOOTBALL: Columbia, Fort White still in same playoff seeds in latest RPI rankings

Last week’s loss to Madison County dropped Columbia’s RPI, but it didn’t affect its playoff seed. Despite their RPI declining from .642 to .604 and down to sixth in Region 1-6A, the Tigers (6-3) are still the No. 3 seed in the region by virtue of winning the District 3-6A title.

PREP FOOTBALL: Tolliver to get MRI on knee, Columbia concerned he may have torn ligament

Tray Tolliver is out at least this week. Possibly the rest of the season too. He’ll find out for sure next week. Tolliver will go for an MRI this Friday to see if he tore any ligaments in his left knee after being injured in Friday’s game against Madison County.

PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Branford's boys, girls both place eighth at districts to qualify for regionals

Branford’s boys and girls cross country teams both placed eighth at the District 3-1A Meet on Tuesday at Alligator Lake to qualify for regionals. The boys finished with 238, while the girls had 190. Oak Hall swept districts titles with 21 and 18 points, respectively.
