PREP FOOTBALL: Suwannee looking for receivers to catch on in camp

LIVE OAK — Suwannee’s top receiver from a year ago graduated. The Bulldogs’ second-leading receiver in 2022 will be throwing passes this fall instead of catching them. If the SHS offense is going to build off its momentum from a year ago, playmakers need to catch on outside.

MAYO — Starting off fall practice a day after most, there was no talk about perfection at Lafayette on Tuesday. Rather, the Hornets’ goal leading into their Aug. 18 preseason Classic against Newberry at Dale Walker Field in Mayo is making progress.

PREP FOOTBALL: Branford is small in number but plenty experienced in camp

BRANFORD — Introductions are probably not needed in Branford. As the Buccaneers begin preparations for the 2023 season, numbers are at a premium. At Monday’s initial fall practice, BHS had just 25 varsity players on the field.

NFL: Jaguars WR Calvin Ridley changes cleats, alleviates toe soreness and practices in full

JACKSONVILLE — Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Calvin Ridley switched cleats Wednesday to alleviate toe soreness. Coach Doug Pederson initially said Ridley would be limited in training camp because of his achy toe, but Ridley found a solution by wearing different shoes.

LIVE OAK — How can Suwannee build off a 2022 season that included a district championship and a regional final berth? For starters, the Bulldogs can forget about last year’s success and find a hunger to surpass those accomplishments.
