PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Mobley, Hermanson set new school records at Suwannee

Morgan Mobley and Ryleigh Hermanson both broke Suwannee school records at the North Florida Classic at North Florida College on Saturday.

Mobley set a new mark at 16:19.20 for a third-place finish out of 63 runners to help the boys place second out of seven teams, breaking Micah Hilliard’s 2017 record of 16:39.40. Hermanson posted a new time of 19:48.20 for a runner-up finish out of 37 runners to help the girls place second out of three teams, shattering her own school record of 20:50.30 that she set in 2022.

The boys finished with 52 points behind champion Lincoln, which tallied 33. Behind Mobley were teammates Brig Scott in sixth (16:19.20), Paul Gunter in 10th (17:19.30), Issac Starling in 17th (17:49.60), Drew Hurst in 22nd (19:08.60), Colton Rogers in 24th (19:24.90) and Andres Gomez in 31st (19:41.80).

The girls finished with 37 points, just four behind champion Wakulla. Behind Hermanson were six runners who finished in the top 13, including Montana Lewis in fifth (21:31.70), Brianna Woods in 10th (21:52.00), Sadie Siemon in 11th (22:11.80), Maddie McMillan in 12th (22:33.30) and Arwen Haley in 13th (22:28.60).

CANDLER, THOMPSON LEAD COLUMBIA

Columbia’s girls placed second and the boys finished third at the Bradford Invitational on Saturday.

Abigail Candler led the girls with a sixth-place finish (23:22.60), while Morgan Golden was seventh ((23:53.20) and Kendall Todd was eighth (23:55.80). Todd was followed by teammates Laelle Thompson (25:23.30) in 13th, Kensi Shaw in 20th (26:33.40), Yulin Chen in 22nd (26:48.80) and Melanie Gordon in 31st (28:31.90) as the girls tallied 38 points behind champion Oakleaf, which finished with 21 points in a three-team race.

The CHS boys finished with 68 points behind Buchholz (36) and Oakleaf (51) in their nine-team race. Joshua Thompson was the only CHS boy to crack the top 10, placing sixth (18:07.20) ahead of teammates Nathan Matsubara (18:31.40), Nolan Martin (18:44.10), Brandyn Pope (18:46.70), Timmy Todd (19:55.60), Dylan Aspenwall (20:09.40), LaWarren Newton (20:42.30) and Jacob McLeod (21:21.70).

ROJAS, WARDLE WIN BRANFORD INVITATIONAL

Branford boys runner Nathaniel Rojas and girls runner Kayleigh Wardle won their respective races at the Branford Invitational on Saturday.

Rojas finished in a time of 20:12.00 in a race featuring 14 runners. Behind Rojas were teammates Matthew Lynn in third (21:26.00), Zander Hegenauer in fourth (21:27.00), Ayden Humphries in sixth (23:23.00), Brendan Hegenauer in seventh (23:35.00), Kalix Smith in 11th (30:25.00) and Andrew Morales-Ramirez in 12th (30:43.00).

Wardle crossed the finish line in 22:01.00 ahead of 15 other runners. Behind her were teammates were Kelbie Snider in second (22:12.00), Anna Moore in fourth (23:13.00), Ella Harris in fifth (24:31.000), Callie Harris in sixth (24:45.00), Delilah Pope in seventh (24:52.00) and Kalyn Osgood in eighth (26:05.00).
