BOYS BASKETBALL: Columbia earns No. 6 seed in Region 1-5A playoffs, will face Lincoln

Last week’s loss to Leon in the District 2-5A semifinals left Columbia on the playoff bubble. On Monday, that bubble didn’t burst. The Tigers (15-12) were awarded the No. 6 seed in Region 1-5A playoffs and will travel to No. 3 seed Lincoln in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 7 p.m.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Fort White awarded No. 2 seed in Region 3-R following district title

FORT WHITE — Fort White coach Bregay Harris had the sign ready in the stands. When the running clock finally hit triple zeroes, the sheet was unfurled as Harris’ team gathered round to celebrate the first of, it hopes, many more accomplishments.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Cold shooting dooms Columbia as Leon pulls away late in District 2-5A semis

It was almost cruel. Shots, left and right, rolled off the rim from the opening tip-off for Columbia. Defense kept things close until the fourth quarter, but one last stretch of missed shots finally did the Tigers in. Now, their playoff hopes are up in the air.

BOYS SOCCER: Maclay mercy rules Branford again in Region 1-2A quarterfinals

TALLAHASSEE — Maclay looked every bit the part of a defending state champion against Branford on Tuesday night. Behind a hat trick and an assist from Luke Daunt, the top-seeded Marauders cruised to an 8-0 mercy-rule win over the 8-seed Buccaneers in the Region 1-2A quarterfinals.
