PREP SWIMMING: Columbia's Fair qualifies for regionals in 100 butterfly, alternate for 200 IM

Casey Fair was Columbia’s lone regional qualifier, advancing to Tuesday’s Region 1-3A meet in the 100 butterfly and as an alternate in the 200 IM. The junior placed fourth in both the 100 butterfly (1:08.33) and 200 IM (2:28.72) at the District 2-3A meet on Oct. 23.

ORANGE PARK — Bynton Edge leapt sideways with two defenders chasing him and reeled in a one-handed catch before getting his feet down in the back corner of the end zone. Yeah, it was that kind of night for Columbia. Only a running clock could save Ridgeview from much further embarrassment.

HILLIARD — Najeeb Smith hadn’t recorded over 100 receiving yards in any game prior to Friday. He managed that — and a whole bunch more — in just the first half against Hilliard.

BRANFORD — Kennedy Walker’s expectations were simple when Branford faced off against Aucilla Christian in their playoff opener. “I expected this team to show up and show out,” she said. Oh, the Buccaneers did that, especially Walker.
