WASHINGTON — Describing himself as a “wartime president” fighting an invisible enemy, President Donald Trump on Wednesday invoked rarely used emergency powers to marshal critical medical supplies against the coronavirus pandemic.

‘Cruise couple’ back after COVID-19 delay

After more than 10 days away from home, Ovidiu and Sondra Deaconescu were finally able to sleep in their own bed Tuesday night after getting back to Columbia County late that afternoon. They just happened to be on a cruise when the COVID-19 virus was turning the world on its head.

Coronavirus: Local business owners are feeling the pinch as concerns spread

The normal flow of day-to-day Lake City life has been disrupted. Limited restaurant service, bar closures and a general slow-down of commercial activity are set to be the new normal for the foreseeable future, as the economic impact of the coronavirus epidemic continues to creep closer to home.

City voters overwhelming supported the city’s plan to allow the Supervisor of Elections Office to conduct city municipal elections through a local referendum on the Presidential Preference Primary ballot Tuesday night. Each of three referendum questions was approved with least 80% of the vote.

Youngsters fly high with local pilots

Thirty area kids, ages 8 to 17, soared high in the sky over Columbia County Saturday, courtesy the local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Young Eagles Rally. Licensed pilots took the youngsters up in their planes at no charge.

Feds launch probe of Carr salary

The investigation into the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence’s potential misuse of public funds has been referred to federal prosecutors, Melinda Miguel, the state’s chief inspector general, told lawmakers on Thursday.

Comic book and sci-fi characters invaded the National Guard Armory all weekend. They dressed as their favorite animations, carried props and spoke with alien accents as they entered contests, played games, learned about special effects, and tried their hand at creating their own comics.
