LIVE OAK — A Live Oak police officer was seriously injured Thursday night when his motorcycle was involved in a crash on U.S. Highway 90 west. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Way Side Park gets facelift from local youngsters

WHITE SPRINGS — Youngsters and adults affiliated with the Our Community Cares Coalition, as well as several local volunteers, are painting a mural on the walls of the Way Side Park boat ramp, as well as making other upgrades at the park.

United Way receives $5K grant for veteran aid

The United Way of Suwannee Valley will continue its work to serve local veterans with the aid of another $5,000 grant from the Enbridge Foundation. The Enbridge Foundation awarded a grant to United Way of Suwannee Valley to be used to serve veterans in United Way’s Mission United program.

Wellborn Cornbread Festival set for Saturday

WELLBORN — Hot eats and hot rods are coming together this weekend for a day of food, fun and fundraising. The Wellborn Community Association is hosting its fourth annual Cornbread Festival this Saturday, Nov. 1, at Andrews Square, located at 1340 8th Ave. in Wellborn.

Car crashes into side of Carroll’s Laundromat

A Live Oak couple was treated for injuries Sunday after crashing into the side of the Carroll’s Laundromat in Live Oak. According to a Live Oak Police Department report, the couple were in the drive-thru line at Pizza Hut around 12:35 p.m.

Masonic Lodge taking over Mayo crosses for veterans

MAYO — The tribute to veterans in Mayo will be moving. The veterans’ crosses that had dotted the Lafayette County Courthouse grounds will instead shift east to the Mayo Masonic Lodge starting Tuesday when the Masons begin placing the crosses out alongside their facility along U.S. Highway 27.

Motorhome blaze quickly knocked down

Live Oak and Suwannee County firefighters extinguished a burning motorhome last week. Just before 9 p.m. on Oct. 23, firefighters from the Live Oak Fire Department responded to a fully involved structure fire near the intersection of Winderweedle Street and Houston Avenue.

JASPER — The Busy Bee redevelopment and expansion project’s second phase is abuzz at the State Route 6 and Interstate 75 interchange. The Hamilton County Development Authority announced the second phase construction is underway Tuesday.

Brotherhood Ride leads cyclists to Gainesville

On Thursday afternoon Elks Lodge #990 in Gainesville hosted bicycle-riding firefighters participating in the Brotherhood Ride who came into town after riding 87 miles from Marion County. Their ride started Oct. 20 in Naples.

A Live Oak civic organization is celebrating 75 years of community service. The Live Oak Lions Club is hosting a 75th anniversary celebration Tuesday at the Suwannee County Chamber of Commerce, 212 Ohio Ave. N in Live Oak, beginning at 6 p.m.
