Three graduate from apprentice program at SVEC

LIVE OAK — Three more journeyman linemen are ready to work at Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative. SVEC announced this week that Adam Ford, Clay Stratton and James Williams have graduated from the co-op’s apprentice lineworker program.

Elevator boost tabled by Lafayette Commission

MAYO — A lift for the Lafayette County Courthouse elevator is going to have to wait. At its meeting Monday morning, the Lafayette County Board of County Commissioners tabled a discussion on maintenance issues on the elevator until after it finalizes the budget for Fiscal Year 2022-23.

Lafayette 4-H members grill the competition

By Shawn Jackson Lafayette 4-H Parents are often reluctant to teach their kids to use the grill. The thought of youth cooking on an open flame can be frightening. However, with adult supervision, grilling can be a safe way to teach an important life skill and lead to healthy eating habits.

DeSantis taps Francis for Florida Supreme Court

TALLAHASSEE —Two years after justices thwarted his first attempt to place Renatha Francis on the Florida Supreme Court, Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday tapped the Palm Beach County circuit judge to serve on a high court dominated by conservative jurists.

Live Oak council to address vacancy

LIVE OAK — The process of filling the open seat on the Live Oak City Council is about to begin. At Tuesday’s regular council meeting, the council will discuss the District 5 seat, which came open when Councilman Don Allen passed away on July 16.
