McALPIN — A McAlpin man was arrested early Sunday morning on allegations of sexual assault.
According to a Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office report, 28-year-old Jalen Ralls had been drinking alcohol while watching football on Saturday evening.

Motorcyclist dies in crash with pickup

COLUMBIA CITY — A motorcyclist was killed Monday evening when he struck a pickup turning in front of him south of Lake City.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a pickup pulling a trailer was headed east on SW King Street when it tried to turn left onto SW Dyal Avenue around 5:10 p.m.

Pedestrian dies after Friday night crash

O’BRIEN — A traffic collision in Suwannee County turned fatal on Friday night.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol release, an SUV, driven by a 48-year-old O’Brien woman, was heading south on U.S. Highway 27 around 8:40 p.m. on Friday.

Tropical Storm Danielle strengthens into first hurricane

MIAMI — Tropical Storm Danielle strengthened into a hurricane Friday morning — the first of an unusually quiet storm season.
The storm is not currently a threat to any land.
The storm’s maximum sustained winds were clocked at 75 mph (120 kph), according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.
