Jasper girl hit boarding school bus

JASPER — A Hamilton County child was hit Tuesday morning while crossing the road to board a school bus. The child, an 8-year-old girl, was airlifted to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville in critical condition according to a Florida Highway Patrol release.

Pair charged after infant hospitalized

LIVE OAK — A Live Oak couple faces child neglect charges a month after their infant son was flown to a Gainesville hospital. David Sheffield-Shipley and Ariana Chavez, both 19, were arrested Tuesday on a warrant for child neglect stemming from an Aug. 25 incident.

HCSO: 911 not for venting frustrations

JENNINGS — Needing to vent is not a reason to call 911. A Hamilton County man found that out the hard way Tuesday. Stephen Pittman, a 25-year-old from Jennings, was arrested around 7 p.m. Tuesday for misusing the 911 system after making four different calls to 911 within a few minutes.

United Way receives $25K donation for storm relief fund

The United Way of Suwannee Valley’s hurricane relief fund received a boost from a natural gas provider. Enbridge, who is a partner in the Sabal Trail Transmission line that cuts through North Florida, donated $25,000 to the United Way’s fund to assist victims from Hurricane Idalia.

Disaster Recovery Centers get new hours

Disaster Recovery Centers in Columbia and Hamilton counties have a new schedule. Starting this week, the Disaster Recovery Center at the old Lake City Reporter building, 180 E. Duval Street in Lake City, will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

OLUSTEE — This week the public has a chance to fire off its shots about planned improvements for the Olustee Battlefield State Park.

Clay rates increase; average bill won’t

For the first time in more than 20 years, Clay Electric Cooperative members will be paying more for their energy rate charge. However Clay said the average bill will not change due to a decrease in the co-op’s power cost adjustment.
