CCFR battles two blazes Sunday

Columbia County Fire Rescue extinguished two home fires within hours of each other Sunday morning, with no injuries reported. The first fire occurred at 7:24 a.m. when CCFR crews responded to a structure fire on NE Sunybrook Street. There, they found a single story home fully engulfed in flames.

Ichetucknee, O’Leno upgrades to be presented

Florida State Parks staff will present and answer questions about future plans for state parks in Columbia County later this week. On Friday, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Recreation and Parks will hold an open house public meeting from 2-6 p.m.

Suwannee Lake closed for cleanup

LIVE OAK — A fishing lake in Suwannee County will be closed for a week for cleanup. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced Thursday that the Suwannee Lake Fish Management Area will be closed to the public from Wednesday through Oct.

LO council seeks to stick with Sessions

LIVE OAK — The Live Oak City Council wants to take the interim label off its city manager. During Tuesday’s council meeting, the council, through consensus, expressed its desire to make Larry Sessions the city’s permanent administrator.

D-SNAP location opening in LO

A Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program location is opening this weekend in Suwannee County. The site, which will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday, will be located at Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative, 11340 100th Street in Live Oak.

MAYO — Nine homes in Mayo will be repaired or replaced with assistance from the state. Last Friday, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced awards to nine small, rural communities through the Florida Small Cities Community Development Block Grant, including to the Town of Mayo.
