SBA disaster loans still available in ‘grace period’

Those impacted by Hurricane Idalia have an extra two weeks to seek low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration. While the deadline to obtain a property disaster loan initially passed Wednesday, the SBA is providing a “grace period” that extends the deadline to Dec. 14.

Court backs DeSantis redistricting plan

TALLAHASSEE — A state appeals court Friday upheld a congressional redistricting plan that Gov. Ron DeSantis pushed through the Legislature, rejecting arguments that it unconstitutionally diminished the rights of Black voters to elect a candidate of their choice.

Rain won’t wash out Christmas on the Square

LIVE OAK — The 39th annual Christmas on the Square appears to be attracting an unwanted visitor this weekend: Mother Nature. Rain is expected to arrive in North Florida on Friday, sticking around for both days of the craft booths at the three-day event.

Christmas returns to the square

LIVE OAK — It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas on the Square in Live Oak. The Suwannee County Chamber of Commerce’s annual holiday festival returns Thursday for its 39th edition.

Storm season ends, recovery will still take time

TALLAHASSEE — For a second consecutive hurricane season, Florida took a direct hit from a major storm. But while the 2023 season will end next week, restoration efforts from Hurricane Idalia will continue for years in rural North Florida, particularly for people in the agriculture industry.
