Shooting victim ID’d, released from hospital

The identity of one of the two victims injured in a shooting last week has been confirmed, while the investigation continues.  Around 1:15 p.m. Friday, the Lake City Police Department responded to shots fired near the intersection of Northeast Escambia Street and Northeast Calhoun Avenue.

Carjacking victim OK; suspect on the loose

A woman survived a late-night carjacking over the weekend, but the gunman evaded capture, according to the Lake City Police Department.  The armed assailant approached the victim in the Lake City Walmart parking lot Saturday night and forced her to drive him to a second location, police say.

Two people, one of them over the age of 65, were attacked by an out-of-control house guest Saturday night, Columbia County deputies say.

Body found next to idling sedan

A Lake City man was found dead in his driveway next to his idling Chrysler 300 Thursday night, a gunshot wound to the chest. Linville Curtis, 54, was found by Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputies at his home in the 300 block of Southwest Donovan Glenn shortly after 7 p.m.

Olustee festivities continue through Sunday

Festivities for the 42nd Annual Olustee Battle Festival continue today with a fun run, 5K race and a 10 a.m. parade through downtown. The parade will be followed by performances from local entertainers, a children’s play zone, and sales of food and arts and crafts by vendors at the festival site.

Man, 80, charged in DUI hit-run

An 80-year-old Lake City man  faces DUI charges after he struck a pedestrian in a motorized scooter Thursday night and drove away from the scene, say police. Anthony Alejo Rodriguez, of NW Common Loop, was charged with DUI and hit and run.

CCSO: Man faces charges in thefts of nine vehicles

An arrest has been made in a months-old case involving nine vehicles reported stolen. Ronald Allen Byrd, 28, of Tom Bullock Place, was arrested Tuesday on nine counts of grand theft auto and a charge of dealing in stolen property at the conclusion of an investigation that started in November.
