1 dead, 2 critical in Live Oak crash

A two-vehicle accident in Suwannee County left one dead and two critically hurt on County Road 136 Sunday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Jacob Grant, 32, Live Oak, died in the wreck, FHP said in a news release.

Covid-19: Live Oak cases traced to a single worker

Gov. Ron DeSantis said Friday that the outbreak of coronavirus at Suwannee Health and Rehabilitation Center in Live Oak was sparked by a single infected employee. A Florida Department of Health strike team was on-site Friday investigating, DeSantis said at a Jacksonville press conference.

Would-be armed robber thwarted, didn’t count on worker also being armed

The door was locked, so he instead tried to rob a North Florida Auto Exchange by flashing his gun at an employee inside. Instead, he took off fleeing when the employee whipped out his own firearm in defense. The Lake City Police Department responded to the possible robbery around 4:35 p.m.

Covid-19: Suwannee reaches 54 cases; Columbia at 17

The outbreak in Suwannee County showed no signs of slowing down Thursday, when health officials announced eight new cases of covid-19, bringing the total up to 54.

Shots fired at man trying to enter car

A Lake City man was sitting in his car on his phone early Wednesday when a man in a ski mask tried to get in, prompting the victim to fire his handgun to send the suspect fleeing. The incident happened around 2:04 a.m. Wednesday on NW Ashley Street.
