VA domiciliary namesake to be honored

INTERLACHEN — A U.S. Marines Corps veteran became choked up Thursday when he remembered serving with his best friend and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. Interlachen resident Seberry Granger was friends with Pfc. Robert Henry Jenkins Jr. before they both served during the Vietnam War.

Groups honor Brannan for legislative efforts

State Rep. Chuck Brannan has been honored twice in the past week by organizations for his work in Tallahassee. Last week, the Florida Coalition of Spoken Language Options recognized Brannan (R-Macclenny) for his legislative efforts to help children with hearing loss.

Local foodies soon won’t have to drive to Gainesville for one of that city’s most popular pizza joints. Lake City is getting a new pizza and Italian food restaurant in the form of Piesanos Stone Fired Pizza, hopefully before the year is over.

Health nuts of Columbia County, rejoice. The Lake City GNC Country Mill store at 680 W. Duval St. is set for its grand reopening Thursday after several weeks of clearing some legal hurdles after a fire in the facility back in February. The store will also resume its normal hours of 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
