FGC to offer Moderna covid vaccine to students

Florida Gateway College is doing its part to help vaccinate its students.  FGC, alongside the Columbia County Health Department, will hold a vaccination clinic for FGC students on Thursday to FGC students who want the Moderna covid-19 vaccine, according to a release from the school.

LifeSouth urges blood donations amid shortage

Amid using more blood than they are getting in, local hospitals are asking for more blood donations.  The need for all blood types continues to grow as both local and national shortages remain, according to a release from LifeSouth.

FGC races to aid students with FAFSA Marathon

Local students interested in attending college were looking at the possibility of getting some federal funding for their education through a Free Application For Federal Student Aid marathon at Florida Gateway College. The FAFSA marathon, which began Friday morning, is scheduled to wrap-up 26.

Airport lands $2.3M

Future development of the Lake City Gateway Airport is ready for takeoff. The city-owned airport received a $2.3 million CARES Act Recovery Assistance grant Thursday for improvements on two World War II-era hangars. The grant, which was awarded by the U.S.

CHS SGA provides ‘Hope’ to foster children

The Columbia High Student Government Association is looking to provide hope.  Literally. The SGA is providing duffel/travel bags to children in foster care for their personal and hygiene items. The students have tabbed the bags, “Hope Bags,” and they hope the bags can help.

Animals on parade: Gallery to honor Lake City artist at Friday reception

Provided an unexpected and extended vacation last spring, Lara Wehrli returned to her artistic roots. Armed with six weeks out of work as a dental hygienist thanks to the covid-19 pandemic, Wehrli turned to canvas or reclaimed tin and wood.

Richardson used as mobile vaccine site

The Richardson Community Center became a mobile covid-19 vaccination site Wednesday. A team from the Federal Emergency Management Agency was on site, administering Johnson & Johnson vaccines to local residents.
