FGC eyes ‘Fun in the Park’

Florida Gateway College’s 75th anniversary celebration is set to continue this Saturday with a family fun day. FGC’s Fun in the Park celebration is set for Saturday at Olustee Park in downtown Lake City. The event is scheduled to run from 8:30 a.m. through noon and is free for all to attend.

Cops arrest homeless man for battery with block

A homeless man was arrested Sunday after beating another homeless individual over the head with a wooden block. According to a Lake City Police Department report, officers responded to the car wash on SW Real Terrace near the intersection with State Road 247 around 2:30 p.m.

CHS cleared after false 'active shooter' call

Columbia High School was placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon due to a reported “active shooter.” According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the report was false. The CCSO said the call was similar to those in the spring of a bomb threat at the school.

Two injured in weekend shooting near school

Two men were hospitalized Saturday evening with gunshot wounds from an incident blocks away from Melrose Park Elementary School. According to a Lake City Police Department release, the scene of the shooting covered three city blocks along SE Avalon Avenue in the area of SE Dade Street.

A Columbia County jury needed less than an hour to convict a Lake City senior citizen on two counts of child molestation Thursday . Daniel James Davis, 65 years old at the time of the crime, was convicted of two counts of lewd or lascivious molestation of a victim less than 12 years old.
