LCFD hosting softball tournament

The Lake City Fire Department is looking to raise some funds while having a little outdoor fun with some friendly competition. The LCFD is set to host a softball tournament on Saturday at the Southside Sports Complex beginning at 9:30 a.m.

A new era begins: Walker, Harris sworn in to Lake City Council

A new era has begun in Lake City. The Lake City Council officially welcomed two new members — and welcomed back its second-most recently elected councilor — in an official ceremony honoring James Carter, Tammy Harris and Noah Walker.

Ramped-up hurricane cleanup only $200K

Columbia County’s storm debris cleanup from Hurricane Helene is entering its stretch run. The deadline for residents to play organic storm debris in the rights-of-way along county roadsides for crews to pick it up passed Sunday.

Veterans honored during annual luncheon

Veterans from various eras gathered at the Florida Gateway Fairgrounds on Saturday for a community luncheon that celebrated their accomplishments and their sacrifices in protecting the county during times of conflict as well as peace.

Outside of the pomp and circumstance of the Lake City Council’s swearing-in ceremony welcoming incoming Mayor Noah Walker and Councilors James Carter and Tammy Harris, there weren’t a whole lot of actionable items on Monday’s agenda.

Thanksgiving meals came a few weeks early for local residents when the Richardson Community Center held its inaugural Friends In Need Thanksgiving Dinner on Saturday at the facility.

White Springs man killed in single vehicle crash

WHITE SPRINGS — A White Springs man was killed Sunday night when his vehicle flipped after hitting a culvert in northern Columbia County. According to a Florida Highway Patrol release, the 53-year-old man’s southbound SUV ran off the side of U.S. Highway 41 near NW Kelly Lane just before 10 p.m.

Casting a new vision: Mayor-elect Walker lays out goals for Lake City

Noah Walker won’t officially become Lake City’s mayor until Monday evening. However, after running unopposed, Walker has been building and working toward Monday’s swearing in since June.
