Lake City lighting Christmas tree downtown Sunday

The Christmas tree in downtown Olustee Park will start to shine this weekend. The City of Lake City’s “Light up the Night” Christmas tree celebration is set for Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at Olustee Park.

Frosts named Citizen of the Year

Nearly 20 years ago, Jean and Keith Frost were new business owners hoping to establish themselves in the community by utilizing integrity and values as some of their key building blocks.

King’s Brass performing Christmas concert

Tim Zimmerman and The King’s Brass are presenting a Christmas concert at Florida Gateway College on Friday. The King’s Brass, which features three trumpets, three trombones, a tuba, percussion and keyboards, will perform at 7:30 p.m.

FGC graduating 380 next week

A near record commencement ceremony will take place at Florida Gateway College next week. FGC’s 2024 fall commencement is set for Thursday, Dec. 12, at 6:30 p.m. at the Howard Center, 149 SE College Place.

Pool director dives right in: Cuadras begins cleaning, makeover of facility

The Jared Allison Aquatic Complex is undergoing a winter cleaning. Chris Cuadras, who was hired as the Columbia County School District’s aquatic director in October, said Monday that he is taking advantage of the winter season to make some overdue cleaning and improvements to the pool complex.

City waives $1 million on pair of liens

A pair of Lake City properties will have city-imposed liens lifted — should the owners meet certain requirements — after the Lake City Council decided their fates. Councilors at Monday’s meeting debated forgiving code enforcement liens on two properties — 301 NW Jefferson St. and 714 NW Alma Ave.

City of Lake City employees could see their work weeks shortened should the council agree with certain findings from its Human Resources Department.

Nude man arrested after visit to mall

A South Florida man forgot more than just his wallet during a trip to the Lake City Mall. The Lake City Police Department said officers responded to the mall at 1:10 p.m. Monday to reports of a naked man in the area of W. U.S. Highway 90 and Bascom Norris Drive.

Man killed in motorcycle crash Saturday night

A man was killed Saturday night when his motorcycle crashed in the W. U.S. Highway 90 median at Baya Drive. According to the Lake City Police Department, a 50-year-old man was headed east on U.S. 90 around 10:40 p.m. Saturday when he lost control of his motorcycle.

Service ready to e-Fly: Transport business to offer rentals for downtown mobility

Scooting around Lake City is set to get a little bit easier in the near future. e-Fly is getting ready to open up with a fleet of electric scooters and bikes for residents to rent out in order to more easily traverse the city.
