PREP ROUNDUP: Six Tigers named to Class 6A all-state team

A half dozen Columbia players were named to the Class 6A all-state team on Friday. Five more received honorable mention.  The Tigers had a trio of seniors garner first-team honors.

COMMENTARY: Columbia’s clutch gene shows up in playoff win over Chiles

Columbia’s Darrien Jones admits he was nervous.  With Thursday’s Region 1-6A quarterfinal between Columbia and Chiles tied at 72, Jones stepped to the line with 8.7 seconds left and a chance to put the Tigers ahead.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Columbia faces Chiles for second time in a week in playoff opener

Six days later, they meet again. Tonight’s Region 1-6A quarterfinal is a rematch of last Friday’s District 2-6A semifinal between Columbia and Chiles. The No. 1 seed Tigers won that night on their home floor, rallying from one down at halftime for a 72-62 win.

GIRLS SOCCER: CHS goalkeeper Emily Lamoreaux signs with Thomas

Emily Lamoreaux fell in love with soccer the first day she ever stepped on the field and put on a pair of goalkeeper gloves. She was only six years old, but she knew right then and there she wanted to play one day in college. On Wednesday, she made her dream come true.

PREP BASEBALL: Columbia falls to Gainesville in season opener

Columbia opened the season Tuesday at Gainesville and failed to generate enough offense, falling 8-2 to the Hurricanes.  Several Tigers made their varsity debut and the team couldn’t overcome an early deficit on the road against a rival opponent.
