BOYS BASKETBALL: Columbia faces Chiles for second time in a week in playoff opener

Six days later, they meet again. Tonight’s Region 1-6A quarterfinal is a rematch of last Friday’s District 2-6A semifinal between Columbia and Chiles. The No. 1 seed Tigers won that night on their home floor, rallying from one down at halftime for a 72-62 win.

GIRLS SOCCER: CHS goalkeeper Emily Lamoreaux signs with Thomas

Emily Lamoreaux fell in love with soccer the first day she ever stepped on the field and put on a pair of goalkeeper gloves. She was only six years old, but she knew right then and there she wanted to play one day in college. On Wednesday, she made her dream come true.

PREP BASEBALL: Columbia falls to Gainesville in season opener

Columbia opened the season Tuesday at Gainesville and failed to generate enough offense, falling 8-2 to the Hurricanes.  Several Tigers made their varsity debut and the team couldn’t overcome an early deficit on the road against a rival opponent.

PREP ROUNDUP: Chasteen places ninth at state; plus softball, wrestling & track & field all in action for CHS

Columbia weightlifter Reece Chasteen placed ninth in the 199-pound weight class at the Class 2A state meet on Saturday in Panama City. Chasteen finished with a 355 total, breaking her own school bench press record by five pounds with a lift of 200 to go with her 155 clean and jerk.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Florida honors Billy Donovan, hammers Vanderbilt

GAINESVILLE — Florida opened and closed the first half with 3-pointers, a fitting tribute on a night the program honored former coach Billy Donovan. Noah Locke scored 19 points thanks mostly to a season-high six treys, Kerry Blackshear Jr.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Columbia holds on to beat Lincoln for back-to-back district titles, clinches No. 1 seed in region

Steve Faulkner knew his group at Columbia was special from the first day of training camp. So he never let up on the Tigers. He was hard on them, because he knew their potential. On Saturday night, they showed just how good they can be. And it may just be the beginning.
