FORT WHITE — The two-coach system turned out to be a one-year experiment. As successful as it was, Fort White’s football team will now have just one man at the helm to begin the next season.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Florida's second-half surge comes up short against No. 9 Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. — K.D. Johnson scored 23 points and No. 9 Auburn extended its winning streak to 11 with a 85-73 victory over Florida on Saturday night. Auburn held off a big second-half surge by Florida (9-5, 0-2 Southeastern Conference), which was led by Colin Castleton’s 22 points and 10 rebounds.

BOYS SOCCER: Columbia shuts out county rival Fort White

Columbia shut out Fort White 3-0 at home Saturday afternoon. Jason Caballero scored a goal on an assist by Riley Stone, Bryson Kyi had a goal via an assist by Stuart Tyler, and Nico Vasquez-Contreras netted another goal on an assist by Kyi for the Tigers (5-8-2).

BOYS SOCCER: Tigers, Bulldogs wrap up rivalry with tie on Senior Night

Columbia didn’t win on Senior Night, but Tigers coach Trevor Hickman was left satisfied with his team’s grit in responding to a late match deficit, resulting in a 1-1 tie in a Friday night dogfight against cross-county rival Suwannee. Columbia’s record is now 4-8-2 while the Bulldogs are 6-4-5.

While the result on the court after the game wasn’t to Branford’s liking, the result beforehand definitely was. LeNelle Phillips Morgan was honored before Thursday night’s girls basketball game between the Bucs and Fort White, with the school dedicating the gym’s name to Morgan.

BRANFORD — So far this season, Fort White is proving that building around youth can be gratifying. For Branford, however, it’s the more typical case of taking your lumps while enduring the growing pains.
