Florida schools rise in latest college rankings

TALLAHASSEE — Florida universities on Monday heralded their advancement in a national ranking of public universities, but none celebrated harder than the University of Florida after cracking the top five on U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges” for the first time.

Wings over Suwannee landing this weekend

Water line repair closing U.S. 129, 90 intersection

LIVE OAK — The main intersection in downtown Live Oak will be temporarily closed Sunday night. The city announced Thursday the intersection of U.S. Highway 129 (Ohio Avenue) and U.S. 90 (Howard Street) will closed Sunday at 6 p.m. for road maintenance.

Hamilton delegation hearing set for Sept. 28

JASPER — Hamilton County officials and residents will have a chance to speak with their state legislators later this month. Rep. Chuck Brannan (R-Macclenny), the chairman of the Hamilton County Legislative Delegation, announced Friday that the annual hearing will be held Tuesday, Sept. 28.

Cops: LO man sexually assaulted toddler

LIVE OAK — A Live Oak man was arrested Thursday for a sexual assault on a small child in July. According to the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office, 71-year-old Pascual Colon Pacheco was watching a movie with a 4-year-old in a residence in western Suwannee County alone on the night of July 4.

Suwannee Chamber Gala off

LIVE OAK — There will be no Gala this year. After being postponed from its normal February date to October, the Suwannee County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors announced Tuesday that it is off for the year. The annual Gala will now be scheduled for February 2022.
