Slugger arrested for threats with bat

Wielding a baseball bat and allegedly threatening to kill a man with it landed a Lake City slugger in jail Tuesday. According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, John Ash, 65, of a SW Lanvale St. address, was walking down Eloise Street around 1 a.m.

CARES funding payout increases

Publix evacuated for ‘suspicious’ bag

A “suspicious” bag of hygiene products and food caused the Lake City Publix to be evacuated Monday night. The Lake City Police Department received a report of a suspicious bag left on a shelf in the entrance to the Publix at 255 NW Commons Loop around 9:05 p.m. Monday.

Church, pastor sued for $5M

The First Apostolic Church of Lake City and its pastor, Luther Leguire, are being sued for $5 million in damages for not preventing the sexual battery of a minor.

With no replacement parts and no backup plan, Lake City officials had no choice. With the St. Margarets wastewater treatment facility aging and in need of repairs, the city has earmarked roughly $6.1 million for a rehabilitation project at the facility that will help avoid “disaster.
