LCMS admins violated policy

Two Lake City Middle School administrators violated district policies stemming from a January incident involving a student being kicked, according to a school district investigation.

Downtown Lake City area is expected to become a hot spot for weekend activity with a series of events scheduled by city officials. The city will host its Spring Market from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, May 8, in downtown Olustee Park.

Young entrepreneurs put their businesses on display Saturday, concluding the Young Leaders festivities. At the rescheduled Art & Entrepreneurial Festival at the Lake City Woman’s Club, among the creative businesses presented were “Creatori,” “Your Idea My Creation” and “Spell Bound.

Like many others on the 2021 Parade of Homes, Jon and Ashley Morris hope to begin building their own home in the near future. For Morris, who owns Ridgepoint Design in town, the parade also provided a chance to see some of his products finished.

Bat beating lands woman in jail

A Columbia County woman was arrested Thursday afternoon after she allegedly used an aluminum baseball bat to attack a female following a disagreement. Heather Marie Cutler, 36, was charged with aggravated battery in connection with the incident.

Cemetery clean-up: City to address rundown appearance of Oaklawn Cemetery

Bricks from the entrance are cracked or missing. Weeds and grass have overgrown portions of the fencing. A tree is growing through an unidentified Confederate soldier’s headstone and other grave stones around Oaklawn Cemetery are similarly broken, unreadable and in disrepair.

North aims to help others in tough situations

More than 20 years ago, Lori North had an unplanned pregnancy and didn’t know what she was going to do.   “I could not even imagine abortion, but it was hard because I didn’t have a whole lot of people in my corner,” she said.
